Winter storm moves across Nebraska, creating potential for dangerous roads
Winter weather is hitting Nebraska once again, with several regions across the state getting hit by snow and ice.
NORFOLK, Neb. – Winter weather is hitting Nebraska once again, with several regions across the state getting hit by snow and ice.
The winter weather landed in the Panhandle first, with the storm slowly moving from west to east on Monday.
In places like Kimball, the combined snow and ice has caused slick conditions, though the weather has yet to force any road closures.
Further north in the Panhandle is where snow is expected to be at its worst.
Closer to the South Dakota border is where the numbers are expected to rack up, with Gordon and Chadron expecting two to three feet of snow by the end of Tuesday.
Further east, in places like Norfolk, Columbus and Humphrey, Monday has been mostly dry, with rain starting to fall by evening.
More moisture is expected overnight, with freezing temperatures expected to cause thick ice, with some snow also possible.
That doesn’t mean there hasn’t already been hairier winter weather in the northeast regions of Nebraska, with Holt and Knox Counties seeing difficult driving conditions by Monday afternoon already.
Just like in the Panhandle, the area near the South Dakota border is expected to be the area with the highest snow accumulation, possibly exceeding two feet.
All but nine of Nebraska's 93 counties are in at least a winter storm watch, with over half in a winter storm warning and a third of the state in an ice storm warning.
