Kansas man dies in plane crash in Holt County

Authorities in Holt County said a 69-year-old Kansas man died following a plane crash on Tuesday.

CHAMBERS, Neb. -- Authorities in Holt County said a 69-year-old Kansas man died following a plane crash on Tuesday. 

The Holt County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a plane crash in a pasture near Chambers that killed 69-year-old Mark Gietzen of Wichita, Kansas.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Holt County Sheriff's Office said that they responded to the crash along with the Holt County Attorney and Coroner's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and Chambers Fire and Rescue.

Authorities said Mark Gietzen died at the scene. The plane was identified as a 1963 Cessna 172.

The Sheriff's Office said the plane had flown from Newton, Kansas and was heading to North Dakota at the time of the crash. 

HCSO said they secured the crash scene. 

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board arrived Wednesday morning to the crash site. 

Authorities said that the cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
