NORFOLK, Neb. -- Mega Millions madness...or billions...has hit northeast Nebraska.

The $1.35 billion are up to be won in Friday night’s drawing.

Nebraskans were busy out and about on Friday picking up their last-minute tickets for the drawing.

“We have seen an increase of tickets being sold. Whoever is lined up pretty much will get a Mega Million ticket, or ask for 10, or even 15, even sold $20 Mega Million tickets,” said Desiree Ortiz, a cashier at HyVee East in Norfolk.

Ortiz added that their location has seen an increase in sales when lottery jackpots climb extraordinarily high.

“We notice it's always an increase in tickets, whether it’s a Powerball even," she said. "When it hits the higher amount, even once it hits 1.5 billion or even million, they’ll come and get several tickets. Even people who [have] never played before.”

The jackpot has been increasing since it was last won on April 18.

It is also the fourth-highest prize ever in the game’s history.

Tickets will stop being sold for Friday night’s drawing at 9:45 p.m. Aug. 4.
