NORFOLK, Neb. -- You can catch a screening of "Stanton" at Norfolk 7 which is based off of, what you could probably already guess, the city of Stanton, Nebraska.

The story follows the life of a man based in the area with filming taking place all over Nebraska with some spots highlighting right here in Norfolk.

Creator Tobiah Powell said that the film's inspiration came from his time on his family's farm that they have owned for more than 100 years.

Taking almost three years to produce, the film premiered Sept. 10 to over 200 moviegoers, with the hope to leave an important message.

"I want the audience to be reminded of the importance of family, and that sometimes that the right thing to do can be the hard thing to do, and in those moments, we have to really build up the courage to do the right thing no matter how hard it is,” Powell said.

Powell wanted the movie to showcase the scenery of Nebraska and allow residents to see their hometowns and favorite spots on the big screen.

Aside from famous gospel rapper Wande, all cast and crew are native to Nebraska.

"So, it's definitely a Nebraska film,” Powell said.

The hour and a half long movie's budget was $20,000, with Powell crediting everyone for generously working for low salary.

"It was very awesome to see like the star community, and the theatre community in Norfolk really come together and be onboard for a project like this,” Powell said.

"Stanton" is currently showing in five theaters across the state, with Powell also working to get it on streaming services.
