'Day By Day': Part two of Nebraska's football documentary hits theaters
LINCOLN, Neb. -- In what was an outstanding turnout for the first part of the documentary, Day By Day releases part two on Friday to movie theaters across the state.
The documentary shines a light on Nebraska’s dominant reign in the 1990’s and the challenges that came with it.
“I still pinch myself that I got an opportunity to tell Tom Osborne’s story,” Director Justin LePera said. “I got to actually sit down with him and he said, ‘Okay, I'll tell you my story...’ He's one of those guys I've always looked up to as a kid.”
The first part of the documentary covered the rise of the dynasty up to the 1994 National Championship. Then came the trials and tribulations.
“When you find out all the adversity that the team had to overcome in getting to that dynasty run, it was just, it's one of those sports stories that had to be told,” LePera said.
The second showing of the documentary has a runtime of a little over two hours. LePera said Osborne’s story can’t be told in just one sitting.
“The reason for two parts is it really turned into almost like a six hour movie,” LePera said. “When we realized, I can't really tell Tom Osborne his journey in just one movie. And that's how we ended up with two.”
In all aspects, Osborne faced many controversial challenges that couldn't be fixed overnight.
“It's really all about overcoming adversity, doing things the right way and when you're getting knocked down, it's all about getting back up,” LePera said.
Nevertheless, a hero Tom Osborne is, in the eyes of many.
"You couldn't help but respect him and what he was doing at Nebraska and he was one of those heroes,” LePera said.
The second part of the documentary will be in theaters on Friday.
