EVM receives Saving America's Treasures grant

NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska museum is one of 58 recipients of the Saving America's Treasures grant.
The Elkhorn Valley Museum announced on Wednesday they were a recipient of the grant.
According to the press release, the grant program is funded in part through the National Park Service, the institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The grant is one that is awarded to institutions to supports the preservation of nationally significant properties and collections.
EVM said the staff wrote the grant to fund a project surrounding the Johnny Carson Collection.
EVM said these funds along with the matching funds received by the Johnny Carson Foundation, will enable the museum to convert space into the Johnny Carson Special Collections Center.
The press release said the grant funds will be used to purchase rolling artifact shelves, create custom housings for the currently not exhibited elements of the Carson collection, and will allow EVM to perform more comprehensive curatorial work.
The museum's goal is to have the project completed sometime in 2025.
"We are humbled and fortunate to receive these capacity building funds," said Libby McKay, EVM executive director. "It is very competitive and we are only the sixth institution in Nebraska to receive a Saving America's Treasures grant. It will be very impactful for our organization."
