One person in custody following standoff in Madison
MADISON, Neb. -- One person is in custody following a standoff outside of a Madison home Thursday afternoon.
According to Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk, Madison Police and Madison County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in the 300 block of East Second St. in Madison at 12:53 p.m. on Thursday.
A caller advised a male held another man with a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him.
When they arrived, authorities found the victim out of the house but the suspect, Latitus Menyweather, was still in the home.
After attempting to contact Menyweather, he threatened officers and barricaded himself in the home.
A portion of Highway 32 was closed down for safety reasons.
Police negotiated with Menyweather for two and a half hours before he walked out of the home and was taken into custody.
Volk said no one was injured during the stand-off.
Menyweather was transported to the Madison County Jail.
He faces charges of terroristic threats, false imprisonment, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and obstructing a police officer.
Nebraska State Patrol, Norfolk Police and Madison Sheriff Tactical team, and the City of Madison all assisted at the scene.
