Sheriff’s office investigating shooting death northeast of Stanton

Authorities are investigating a shooting death in northeast Nebraska.

STANTON, Neb. -- Authorities are investigating a shooting death in northeast Nebraska. 

It happened at a rural home about five miles northeast of Stanton Wednesday afternoon. 

Officials with the Stanton County Sheriff's Office said a man was found inside, dead from a gunshot wound, but no firearm was found near the body. 

The Sheriff's Office said a handgun was eventually located in the home. 

Several people have been interviewed, but it's unclear if any charges will be forthcoming. 

Authorities said they are investigating the manner of death and evidence collected at the scene and an autopsy has been scheduled in Omaha. 

Law enforcement said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
