Joshua Kuhl sentenced up to 40 years in connection to fatal accident that killed Norfolk man

Law enforcement in the metro area say a man has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after an accident killed a Norfolk man in February 2024.

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Law enforcement in the metro area say a man has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after an accident killed a Norfolk man in February 2024. 

On Tuesday, Douglas County Sheriff's Office said 36-year-old Joshua Kuhl, of Carter Lake, was sentenced to 32 to 40 years in prison. 

Kuhl was intoxicated with a BAC of .171 was driving on Feb. 18, 2024. He failed to stop at a stop sign causing an accident that killed Gary Smith, of Norfolk. 

Kuhl received 30-37 years for motor vehicle homicide, and 2-3 years for driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, two counts.
