NORFOLK, Neb. — Firefighters made quick work of a house fire on Wednesday afternoon in Norfolk.

The call came in around 3:00 of black smoke billowing from a house on 1st St. just north of Pasewalk Ave. Firefighters on scene say they arrived and encountered flames and smoke in the living room. They quickly extinguished the fire and searched the house to confirm that nobody was inside.

The house is condemned and electricity and gas to the house are turned off.

Authorities shut down the southbound lanes of 1st St. for at least 45 minutes to allow firefighters to clear the scene.

A news release says the fire was incendiary in nature, meaning it was deliberately ignited. The fire caused about $5,000 in damage and there were no injuries.
