Oktoberfest coming to Norfolk filled with fun for the family

The Norfolk area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a weekend full of brats and brews with Oktoberfest.

NORFOLK, NEB. - The Norfolk area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a weekend full of brats and brews with Oktoberfest.

The chamber of commerce put together Oktoberfest in 2012 as a celebration to Norfolk’s German heritage. Chamber of Commerce President Austen Hagood is excited to see thousands celebrating the community of Norfolk.

“ This year what were excited about is will have multiple screens to watch the husker game on," said Hagood. "So were expanding to a media empire at this point so well have multiple and well also have the volleyball game on Saturday as well.”

Oktober fest started in Munich Germany celebrating Prince Ludwig the firsts wedding with races and festivities in 1810. 4,862 miles away its almost time 2025 Oktoberfest here in Norfolk put on by the chamber of commerce you can spend your time with a brat or maybe in a Stein holding competition.

“ My favorite is probably the stein holding competition which is you really see what your made out of its a long two minutes for some people," said Hagood. "We also have the Weiner dog races, we have the kids big wheel races, we have a and competition with all of the high schools so its a lot of fun and really is a family festival."

Since it started thirteen years ago, Hagood has watched the celebration of german heritage turn more into a celebration of Norfolk.

“And the last few years its kinda just grown to be a community wide celebration where we have everything going on,"said Hagood.
