York man arrested for intentionally starting fire at Walmart

A 20-year-old York man was arrested for allegedly starting a fire at Walmart, causing its temporary closure, and has admitted to the crime, according to the York Police Department.

YORK, Neb. — A 20-year-old man from York is in custody after allegedly starting a fire inside the York Walmart, leading to the store's temporary closure.

The York Police Department reported that the suspect used items within the store to ignite a fire, damaging merchandise before leaving the premises. He was apprehended shortly after the incident.

Authorities stated that the incident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The suspect has reportedly admitted to starting the fire.

Captain Russell Coffey of the York P.D. indicated that further details would be released upon the conclusion of the investigation. He also noted that the York Walmart is expected to reopen as soon as possible.
