EPA allows summer sale of E-15 gas nationwide

NEBRASKA — Some relief may be on the way for drivers as the summer travel season approaches.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued an emergency waiver allowing the nationwide sale of E-15, a gasoline blend containing 15% ethanol, starting May 1.

Summer regulations typically restrict the sale of E-15, but officials say the waiver is intended to increase fuel supply and help lower prices for consumers and farmers.

Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer welcomed the move but said a permanent, year-round solution from Congress is still needed instead of temporary waivers.

The waiver is expected to take effect in most states next month.
