NORFOLK, Neb. -- A former northeast Nebraskan has claimed a Pulitzer Prize.
Kelly Ann Scott, who graduated from Norfolk High School, won the award in June alongside a team of journalists from AL.com. Scott is the editor in chief and vice president of content for Alabama Media Group, which includes AL.com, and she was the project's top editor.
Scott's team won the award for national reporting, sharing the honor with the staffs of The Marshall Project, The Indianapolis Star and the Invisible Institute, for a yearlong investigation of K-9 units and police dogs.
The series of stories also won a national White House Correspondents’ Association award for investigative journalism in April.
One of Scott's columnists was also named a Pulitzer finalist.
"What a year for us," Scott said in an email to Norfolk Public Schools administration. "So proud of this team."
Following her graduation from Norfolk Public Schools, Scott attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Scott graduated from UNL in 1998 before attending St. Cloud State in Minnesota for her master's degree. She has spent the bulk of her career working at newspapers in Nevada and Alabama.
Scott was present for the awards presentation on June 25, along with the rest of her team.
