WEST POINT, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska fine dining location announced Monday that it is closing its doors, effective immediately.

Owners of the Bohemian Duck in West Point announced via social media that they are closing the restaurant "with a heavy heart."

"We so appreciate our steadfast staff for sticking it out through thick and thin and hope only good things in their futures," restaurant leadership said.

The restaurant opened on February 27, 2020, just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the country.

"At that time, it was all happening so fast," owner and chef Robert Knobbe told News Channel Nebraska in 2021. "It was almost like you were just going with the flow."

Knobbe said that while the restaurant survived the pandemic, it was the period after the coronavirus that left it unable to survive. Despite offering different menus that shifted from fine dining to a more casual environment, he said that the customer-base in Cuming County was not sufficient for long-term sustainability.

"We adapted our vision to better fit what West Point locals said they wanted, but it wasn’t enough," Knobbe's Monday post said. "Without the support of our West Point residents, we cannot make it."

He said that there may be some inventory-clearing days in the near future, but for now, the Bohemian Duck appears to have served its last meal.
