NORFOLK, Neb. -- Fire officials in northeast Nebraska worked for a portion of Monday afternoon to put out a cornfield fire.

The Norfolk Fire Division had been called to the cornfield fire on Highway 81 and 833rd Road around 2:13 p.m.

The first arriving units said they saw moderate smoke and flames coming from the cornfield and ditch.

NFD said initial crews encountered moderate smoke and flames on the road and in the field.

It took about 10 firefighters and seven rigs 15 minutes to control the fire and another hour to overhaul the field.

The Fire Division said the fire was believed to be cause by a vehicle in the field.

No equipment was damaged, but the property had a loss of about two acres of corn stalks that were burnt.

NFD said they were assisted by Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison Fire, and the property owner with a disk.

There were no injuries during the fire.
