NORFOLK, Neb. -- After months of construction and delays traffic on Benjamin Avenue is expected to reopen.

On Wednesday night, the city of Norfolk provided an update on its ongoing roadway projects.

Assistant City Engineer Anna Allen filled in for Bo Atkins of BX Civil, who could not attend the meeting.

Allen said BX Civil most recently finished its storm sewer placement and completed mainline concrete pavement from the west side of the street to Riverside Boulevard.

Work on Riverside Boulevard, which intersects with Benjamin, will begin work on Thursday. Once that is completed and cleaned up Allen said traffic will open back up.

"Once they get that done, they'll get Riverside done, get everything cleaned up and open to traffic," Allen said. "We're hoping we'll have all of this open back up to traffic including the Riverside intersection...by the end of next week."

While traffic would be opened up to all lanes, construction will still be ongoing along the road.

Allen said work to install traffic lights including, pouring and electrical will take place once they open traffic back up.

BX is also hoping to put in sidewalks, but may have to wait until spring.

Street light installation on the south side of Benjamin, as well as landscaping work, will also wait until spring.
