Liberty Bell Park gets donation for new pickleball courts
NORFOLK, Neb. -- A large donation to Norfolk parks will bring a new feature to one of its locations.
On Monday, the Norfolk Park service was presented with a $300,000 check. The three men behind the donation were Mike Wingate, Tom Schueth, and Bryan Adams, who presented the check during Norfolk's city council meeting.
"Tom and I and our other partner Bryan Adams felt that we wanted to give more back to the community," Wingate said. "One of the fastest growing sports, and the things that brings communities and peoples together more than anything out there right now is pickleball."
Liberty Bell Park will have four new fenced-in and lighted pickleball courts. The sport has grown popular for several years, especially among older adults.
The city is hoping to have the courts open by the spring of next year. It would be the latest addition to Liberty Bell Park, which has recently seen many renovations including its pool closing and new playground equipment installed.
