STANTON, Neb. – Congressman Mike Flood recently toured the Maskentine Recreation Area, a popular local spot developed by the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (NRD) in the 1970s. The area offers a range of activities, from biking to fishing. Flood said he wanted to understand the recreational area's importance, its role in flood control for Stanton, and check in with the Lower Elkhorn NRD, which runs two rural water systems in the first Congressional District.

While the visit focused on local recreation, Flood also addressed global issues, including the release of the Epstein files. "If presented with the opportunity to vote on a resolution to have the Epstein Files released, yes, do it," Flood stated. "I am also excited to see Jamie Colmer, the oversight chairman of the House, has subpoenaed Miss Maxwell. Let's get her on the record if she's willing to testify."

Flood also expressed condolences following the recent explosion in Fremont, part of his district, and outlined the steps being taken to provide assistance. "My office immediately reached out to make sure that they were able to connect them with any federal help that they need," Flood said. "My sense is that there are a lot of families that are hurting and mourning the loss of that gentleman and those two children.”

Looking ahead, Flood is preparing for a town hall on August 4, where he plans to discuss the Big Beautiful Bill. "I'm going to start with telling people there's a difference between Medicare, which is available to everyone over the age of 65, regardless of your income, and Medicaid, which is available to people that are vulnerable, not able bodied, or able to work,” Flood said.

The town hall will be held at the Kimball Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 5 to 6 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. on the building's north side. Attendees should note that no signs or backpacks are permitted, and a clear bag policy will be enforced.

For all those looking to to watch, News Channel Nebraska (NCN) will broadcast and stream the town hall. for more information please visit us @newschannelnebraska.com
