Stanton, Neb. - The city of Stanton has unveiled a stunning new art piece, honoring the brave men and women across all six branches of the U.S. military. The memorial marks a significant addition to the community, providing a space for reflection and gratitude.

According to Stanton County Veterans Memorial Park President LaLene Bates, the land on which the memorial now stands was originally intended for a new Stanton library. However, those plans changed, leaving a vacant lot open for a new purpose. Bates and other veteran memorial board members collaborated with the library and county commissioners to develop the idea of a memorial dedicated to veterans.

After planning since August 2022, the park now features four kiosks that will showcase 1,500 names and faces. There is also space to add two more kiosks, along with custom granite benches available for purchase, allowing individuals to engrave messages about their veteran or thank those who fought to protect America, Stanton committee park officials said. The project totaled $1.2 million, using high-quality black granite from India to honor past and present veterans.

"The park isn't just a place to honor the fallen; it's also designed to be family-friendly and educational," said Bates. An old cannon, which had been in the town for a long time, is being restored and will be brought back to the park.

In addition to the restored cannon, flags and a gazebo for family picnics will be added. The grand opening is scheduled for Memorial Day in 2026.
