OPD responds to shots fired at Westroads Mall
Omaha Police said they responded to Westroads Mall on Wednesday after a report of shots being fired.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha Police said they responded to Westroads Mall on Wednesday after a report of shots being fired.
OPD said around 7:10 p.m., the suspect called 911 and threatened to shoot at responding officers and to take his own life.
According to authorities, officers arrived and located the suspect, an 18-year-old from North Platte in the west parking lot holding a handgun.
OPD said shoppers inside Westroads were evacuated to a safe location, the suspect eventually put the handgun down.
Officials said they located several spent shell casings outside the mall and a vehicle that had been damaged from gunfire.
OPD said the suspect was taken to a local hospital, and upon release from the hospital was booked at Douglas County Corrections.
Officials said they took him into custody without incident.
The suspect was charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied building, two counts of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, criminal mischief, and minor in possession of a gun.
