STANTON, Neb.- Stanton County Authorities are concerned after the fifth dog bite incident in the past year.

There were three cases in Stanton, one case in Woodland Park, and another north of Leigh. According to Sheriff Mike Unger, all victims had to seek medical attention.

The most recent case involved a 12-year-old girl in Stanton. The sheriff's office says she was seriously injured when a German Shepard attacked her as she walked her dog Tuesday morning.

A news release said the girl suffered severe damage to her arm and was rushed to Faith Regional Health Services.

To avoid dog attacks, Sheriff Unger says people should consider carrying dog repellent when out.

"This was an attack, not just a bite, we did impound the dog. There is the possibility now after the county attorney and viewer reports that the owners of the dog a man and a women that live together that will or could face criminal prosecution," said Sheriff Unger.

Unger says the incident was an attack and that the German Shepard has since been impounded.

He also said there's a possibility the county attorney could file charges against the dog owners.
